Bear Creek Watershed Survey Procedures
The project steering committee has set the areas to be surveyed and the years
assigned to those areas for completion. Sites are visited five times during the
breeding season and sites are re-visited on a five-year rotation. Volunteers are
recruited for survey work from the TENAS membership as well as others with work
to be completed approximately from 1 May to 15 July.
Surveyors record the following general types of data in the field:
- observers
- time spent in the field
- species and number of individuals encountered
- evidence of breeding
- broad habitats where species are found
- the habitats and areas covered during a survey
Detailed survey methods are provided in the BCA manual, which can be downloaded
here. Surveyors can enter their data on this website. Entry procedures are
provided in the manual. Detailed information on use of breeding codes by species
from the Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas can be found here.
